A Trip to Nottingham
A Trip to Nottingham is an English Country Dance. It was published by Playford (John Young) (website) in 1710 in The Dancing Master, Vol. the Second, London. It was interpreted by Charles Bolton (website) in 2003 and published in Retreads Vol.9. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper 3 Couple Longways dance. In this dance the couples are permuted by: 312. The minor set lasts 16 bars. It is in the key: G Minor.
Note: Each Strain is to be play'd twice over.
All four Hands half round, the first Couple turn Sides with the third Couple This to the first Strain play'd once Then cast up to the Top and change Places with your Partners This to the first Strain play'd twice The first Couple go in and out below the third Couple This to the second Strain play'd once Then lead up to the top and cast off. This to the second Strain play'd twice
Originally a triple minor.
The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
