Amy

Amy is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Colin Hume (website) in 2006 and published in Colin Hume's Website. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars. It is in the key: E minor. Someone thought this dance was Intermediate / Hard.

The shadow is semi-permanent. It is the same as you go down the set, becomes wierd at the ends, and becomes someone else as you go up.

In the hey the center pair do two changes and then loop right (which is opposite from the direction they would normally move in the hey). The outside two continue their gypsy until they pass their original neighbor left, and then pass each other right, falling out into a ring behind their partners

The tune was composed by Colin for the dance. It was performed by Bare Necessities (Earl Gaddis, Mary Lea, Peter Barnes, and Jacqueline Schwab) on the album A New English Ball. The music is used with permission from the Country Dance Society, Boston Centre, Inc.

The animation plays at 95 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

An online description of the dance may be found here.

The dance contains the following figures: turn single, gypsy, circle, cast, hands across, hey (and probably others).
