Bath Carnival

Bath Carnival is an English Country Dance. It was published by Thompson in about 1777, London. It was interpreted by W. S. Porter, M. Heffer, A. Heffer in 1931 and published in The Apted Book of Country Dances. Found in The Playford Ball. Mentioned in the article A Trip to Netherfield. It is a proper Triple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars. Someone thought this dance was Intermediate.

Thompson writes:

1st. Cu. lead thro' between the 2d. and 3d. Ladies the Lady going to the top the Gentn. to the bottom meet in the middle and lead thro' the same between the 2d. and 3d. Gentn. set 3 & 3 top & bottom, set 3 & 3 sideways Hands 6 half round and back again lead outsides

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), set, turn single, circle, cast, lead (and probably others).
