Bath Medley

Bath Medley is an English Country Dance. It was published by Wright in 1740 in Wright's Compleat Collection of Celebrated Country Dances, Vol. 1, London. It was interpreted by Ken Sheffield (website) in 1982 and published in From Two Barns, Vol 1. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

Also found in Walsh's The Compleat Dancing Master, Book 1, 1740. The wording is basically the same.

Wright writes:

The 1st Man cast down ye 2d Wo. cast up at ye same time, then cast back again into your own Places 1st Wo. & 2d Man does ye same 1st Man change Places with ye 2d Wo. 1st Wo. does ye same with ye 2d Man, all four go round to your own Places 1st&2d Man sets to their Partners Right and Left half round.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
