Dovetail

Dovetail is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Gary Roodman (website) in 1996 and published in Sum Further Calculated Figures. It is a 4 Couple Longways dance with the 1s, 2s improper. In this dance the couples are permuted by: 3142. The minor set lasts 32 bars. It is in the key: D minor. Someone thought this dance was Intermediate / Hard.

Note: The terms "heads" and "sides" change meaning within the minor set.

The tune, Minuet in D Minor, was composed by J.S. Bach and performed by MGM (Mary Lea, Gene Murrow, and Margaret Ann Martin) on the album New Friends.

The animation plays at 95 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), turn single, circle, cast, lead, figure eight, siding (and probably others).
