Draper's Maggot ~ Herman

Draper's Maggot ~ Herman Draper's Maggot ~ Kennedy

Draper's Maggot ~ Herman is an English Country Dance. It was published by Playford (John Young) in 1706 in The Dancing Master, 13th ed.. It was interpreted by Fried de Metz Herman in 1995. It is a proper Triple Minor dance. The dance lasts 32 bars.

Playford writes:

Note: Each Strain twice over.

Hands all four quite round and cast off · and Right and Left with the 3. cu : then the 1. man turn the 3. wo. and the 1. wo. the 2. man, and then his own Partner · the the 1. man turn the 2. wo. and the 1. wo. the 3. man, and then turn Partners ··
Herman makes the following changes from the Kennedies' interpretation:

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), circle, cast, lead, hey, circular hey (and probably others).

If you find what you believe to be a mistake in this animation, please leave a comment on youtube explaining what you believe to be wrong. If I agree with you I shall do my best to fix it.
