East Indian

East Indian is an English Country Dance. It was published by Thompson in 1783 in Thompson's Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, Vol. 4, London. It was interpreted by Ken Sheffield (website) in 1988 and published in From Two Barns, Vol 5. Found in The Playford Assembly. Mentioned in the article A Trip to Netherfield. It is a proper Triple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars. Someone thought this dance was Intermediate.

Thompson writes:

Right hands across half round left back again
Lead down the middle up again & cast off
Hands 6 quite round
Allemand with your partner

The tune was published with the dance and was performed by Bonnie Insull, Susan McNeil, and Robert Winokur in perparation for the Santa Barbara Winter Dreams Ball, 2017.

The animation plays at 107 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
