Description

  1. All eight balance and all eight swing
  2. Balance and swing. First couple walks to second couple with the lady leading.
  3. She walks between second lady and gentleman and around second lady, with her partner following (12 counts). She then walks between second lady and gentleman again, but her partner stops in front of second lady while she continues walking around second gentleman (8 counts).
  4. First and second couples do a do si do.
  5. First couple walks to third couple and repeats 3, 4, and 5.
  6. First couple walks to fourth couple and repeats 3, 4, and 5.

Dunlavy has her own deffinition of "do-si-do":

Two couples join hands in a circle and walk to the left (4 counts). They pass through as in Right and Left Through, (2 counts). Partners then join left hands and walk past each other, releasing their hold as they pass, but do not turn (2 counts). Each gentleman joins right hands with the opposite lady and turns her completely around (4 counts). He then joins left hands with his own partner and turns her round onto his right (4 counts).

If the couples will practice walking through this slowly at first, they will soon be able to dance the figure without consciousness of the number of counts

Boyd adds a comment that instead of the final promenade to places, the dancers may choose to do a (modern) partner swing to get to places.

The tune was published by Ralph Page in Horthern Junket with the dance. Colin Hume's software synthesized the music.

The animation plays at 115 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), circle, lead, rights and lefts, swing (and probably others).
