The Lassie in the Yellow Coatie Lassie Wi' the Yellow Coatie

Lassie Wi' the Yellow Coatie or The Lassie in the Yellow Coatie ~ RSCDS is a Scottish Country Dance. It was published by Johnson in 1742 in A Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, Vol. 2nd, London. It was interpreted by RSCDS in 1932 and published in RSCDS Book 8. It is R8×32 3C/4C, a proper Triple Minor dance. R32.

The RSCDS attributes this dance to David Rutherford, but John Johnson published the same figure a few years earlier.

Rutherford writes:
The first Couple casts of two Couple cast up again Cross over & half figure right hand and Left quite round with the second Couple foot it Corners and turn foot it the other Corners and turn Lead through the Mens side and turn your Partner Lead through the Womens side and turn it out

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

An online description of the dance may be found here.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), set, cast, lead, figure eight (and probably others).
