Moll Peatly, the New Way ~ Pfitzinger

Moll Peatly, the New Way Moll Peatly, the New Way ~ Pfitzinger

Moll Peatly, the New Way ~ Pfitzinger is an English Country Dance. It was published by Henry Playford (website) in 1701 in The Dancing Master, 11th ed., London. It was interpreted by Scott Pfitzinger (website) in about 2019. It is an improper duple minor longways dance. The minor set lasts 18 bars.

Playford writes

The 1. man begins on the womens side, the 1. cu. sides to the 2. cu. of one side, and then on the other side; then hit your right Elbows together, and then your left, and turn with your left-hands behind, and your right-hands before, and turn twice round; and then your left Elbows together and turn as before, and so to the next.

Note: This uses the same music as Mall Peatly but has a different figure ("the new way")

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
