Old Noll's Jig ~ Sharp is an English Country Dance. It was published by Henry Playford (website) in 1702 in Twenty Four New Country Dances. It was interpreted by Cecil Sharp (website) in 1922 and published in The Country Dance Book (Part 6). It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.
The 1. man turn single into the 1. wo. place, the 1. wo. does the same at the same time and set to their Partners, and cast off The other cu. do the same Then right-hands a-cross, and left-hands back again; Then Figure through the 2.cu. and make two hops, and cast off, and turn to their own sides.
Note: The Last Strain is to be play'd but once.
The tune was published by Playford with the dance, and the music was synthesized by Colin Hume's software.
The animation plays at 113 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
