Orca ~ ECD is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Barry Skelton in 1994 and published in The Dolphin Book. It was interpreted by Ron Coxal in 2005. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars. It is in the key: G major.
This is an English version of a Scotish Country dance with the same name.
The tune, called Zone Nine, was composed by Dave Wiesler. It was performed by Goldcrest (Daron Douglas, Paul Oorts and Dave Wiesler) on the album Goldcrest. The music is used with permission from the Joseph Pimentel and Goldcrest. The album may be purchased either at the CDSS online store or at Bandcamp.
The animation plays at 111 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
The dance contains the following figures: circle, cast, lead, figure eight, double figure eight, hey, dolphin hey (and probably others).
