Quabbin Waltz is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Gary Roodman (website) in 2023 and published in Countable Calculated Figures. It is a Square dance. It is a multipart dance. The minor set lasts 128 bars. It is in the key: G Minor.
I found, after talking with Gary, that I needed to change the instruction in the book slightly. In A2:3-4 instead of it being a half turn, it's "turn the women(men) into the center" — half the dancers do a full turn, the other half a half turn. Again in B:1-4 it isn't a gypsy once, it's gyspy until you reform the square, which is more like once and a half for some dancers.
The tune, called Quabbin Moonlight Mikva, was composed by Amy Rose and was performed by Anna Patton, Karen Axelrod, and Kate Barnes on the album Summersweet.
The animation plays at 123 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), gypsy, circle, hands across (and probably others).
