Royall Fishery ~ A. Shaw or Royal Fishery ~ A. Shaw is an English Country Dance. It was published by Walsh in 1715 in Twenty Four New Country Dances for the Year 1715. It was interpreted by Andrew Shaw in 2006 and published in Emperor of the Moon. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars. It is in the key: D Major.

Walsh writes:

Note. Each Strain twice

The 1st. man takes his wo. by the left hand with his right and leads her round the 2d. man, till they come all four abreast, and all lead up the room and fall back again then all four hey till they come to the same places again then the 1st. cu. cross over below the 2d. cu. and lead between the 3d. cu. cast up and turn into the 2d. cu. place, then the 2d. cu. turn down the mid the 1st. cast up, then the 1st. cu. turn down the middle, the 2d. cu. cast up .

John Young writes:

Note: Each Strain twice over.

The first Man takes his Wo by the Left-hand with his Right, and lead her round the 2d Man till they come all four abreast, and lead up the Room and fall back again Then all four Hey till they come to the same Place again The first Cu. cross over below the 2d Cu. and lead between, the 3d Cu. cast up and turn into the 2d. Cus. Place Then the 2d Cu. turn down the Middle, and the first cast up, then first Cu. turn down the Middle and the 2d Cu. cast up

John Walsh published the tune with the dance, Royall Fishery, and the music was synthesized using Colin Hume's software.

The animation plays at 113 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), cast, lead, figure eight, double figure eight, lead and cast, cross go below, (and probably others).
