Skellamefago

Don Pedro

Skellamefago or Don Pedro is an English Country Dance. It was published by John Playford (website) in 1651 in The English Dancing Master, London. It was interpreted by Scott Pfitzinger (website) in about 2019. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. It is a multipart dance. The minor set lasts 144 bars. It is in the key: G Major.

Playford writes

Lead up forwards and back, set and turn S. That againe First cu. arms once and an half between the 2. in the 2. place, set each to the 2. cu. and change places with your own Do this Change to the last, the rest following.
Sides all, set and turn S. That againe First cu. slip down between the 2. turn each your own, then turn each others wo. turn your own again ·: Do this to the last, the rest following.
Arms all, set and turn S. That againe First four take hands across and go round, first man change places with the 2. wo. first wo. chnage places with the 2. man, then change both with your own ·: Do this to the last, the rest following.

This consists of the three standard introductions each followed by a short progressive figure. In Playford's day each would run until everyone was back where they started.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
