The Country Farmer

The Country Farmer is an English Country Dance. It was published by Henry Playford (website) in 1702 in Twenty Four New Country Dances, London. It was interpreted by Cecil Sharp (website) in 1922 and published in The Country Dance Book (Part 6). It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 24 bars. It is in the key: F Major.

Playford writes:
The 1: Man cast off and his Partner follows him The 2. cu. does the same The 1. Man being in the wo. place, change places with the 2. wo., the 2. man cross over with the 1. wo. then cast up Hands quite round till you are in your places, then Right and Left quite round

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

A11-4M1, followed by partner, casts down and crosses the set in 2nd place, both ending improper (2s lead up)
A21-4M2, followed by partner, casts down and crosses the set in 2nd place, both ending improper (1s lead up)
B11-4W1+M2 change, M1+W2 change
5-81s long cast up as 2s lead down
B21-4Circle left
5-8Facing partner three changes of rights and lefts
