The Tub #2 ~ Bolton

The Tub #2 ~ Bolton is an English Country Dance. It was published by Playford (John Young) (website) in 1718 in The Dancing Master, Vol. the Second, 3rd ed., London. It was interpreted by Charles Bolton (website) in 1986 and published in Retreads Vol.2. Originally proper this version is an indecent duple minor longways dance. The minor set lasts 28 bars. It is in the key: G Major.

Playford published two dances named The Tub, one in 1710 and the second in 1718. This is the second.

Playford writes:

Note: The first Strain twice, and the last but once over.
The first two Cu. change Places with each other, then Hands across half found and turn single Change places with your Partners and stop, the first Man change with the 2d, and the first Wo. with the 2d, then first Cu. cast up and turn Hands proper, the 2d Cu. at the same Time turn Hands down the middle Then Back to Back with your Partners and clap Hands once, then your Right hand with your Partner's Left, then your Left with your Partner's Right, the two Men and two We. do the same, then first Cu. cast off at the same Time, the 2d Cu. turn Hands up the Middle

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
