Up on a Lofty Mountain

Up on a Lofty Mountain is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Pat Shaw (website) in 1974 and published in New Wine in Old Bottles. It is a Square dance. There is no progression in this dance. It is a USA dance. The dance lasts 48 bars. It is in the key: D minor.

The tune was is a traditional dutch one. It was performed by Bare Necessities (Earl Gaddis, Mary Lea, Peter Barnes, and Jacqueline Schwab) on the album A New English Ball. The music is used with permission from the Country Dance Society, Boston Centre, Inc.

The animation plays at 99 counts per minute. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color.

An online description of the dance may be found here.

The dance contains the following figures: USA, gypsy, lead, hands across, siding, arming (and probably others).
