Wolverton Hall ~ Bentley

Wolverton Hall ~ Bentley Wolverton Hall ~ Bolton Wolverton Hall ~ Callens

Wolverton Hall ~ Bentley is an English Country Dance. It was published by John Playford (website) in 1686 in The Dancing Master, 7th ed., London. It was interpreted by Bernard Bentley in 1980 and published in The Fallibroome Collection, Vol. 6. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

Playford writes:
The 1. man and 1. wo. meet, then fall back and change places, then the 2. man and 2. wo. lead up into the 1. cu. places, then fall back and change places; the 1. man then bing in the 2. wo. place, and 1. wo. in the 2. man's place, the all four take hands and turn round till each cu. come into their own plaes again, then 1. and 2. we. take hands and lead between the two men into their places, and hands half round, then cast off, the rest doing the same in like manner.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: circle, cast, lead (and probably others).
