The De'il's Dead

Aberdeen ~ 3 Couple Aberdeen

Aberdeen or The De'il's Dead is an English Country Dance. It was published by John & William Neal in 1726 in A Choice Collection of Country Dances. It was interpreted by Rich Jackson & George Fogg in 1990. It is a proper Triple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 64 bars.

The Neals write:

The 3 first men hey:
1st ma: turn's 2d wo: wth his right hand and his partner with his left:
The 3 first women hey:
1st wo: turn's 2d ma: with her right hand and her partner with her left:
1st cu: cross over ye 2d cu: and then ye 3d cu:
Lead up to ye top and honour: casting off into 2d cu: place:
1st cu: lead abrest with 3d cu: (ye 1st cu: in ye middle facing ye lower end of ye room) half figure into 2d cu: place improper:
Then lead a breast with 2d cu: (1st cu: in ye middle facing ye upper end of ye room) and half figure into 2d cu: place:

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), cast, lead, figure eight, hey, cross go below (and probably others).
