Bromely Assembly

Bromely Assembly is an English Country Dance. It was published by Johnson in 1751, London. It was interpreted by Fried de Metz Herman (website) in 1995 and published in Ease and Elegance. It is a proper Triple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

Johnson writes:
Set and cast off down two Cu. Right Hand and Left half found and turn your Partners off their own side The 1st Man turn Hands with the 2d. Cu. and the 1st Wo. do the same with the 3d Cu. at the same time and meet in the Middle and turn lead thro' the 3d Cu. & then at top into the 2d place.

Fried specifies a circle three left (and that is what I show here), Johnson simply says "turn hands". But looking at the surrounding figures I think a circle right would make more sense.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), set, circle, cast, lead, hey, mirror hey, rights and lefts (and probably others).
