Fight about the Fireside ~ Lowes

Fight about the Fireside ~ Lowes Fight about the Fireside ~ RSCDS

Fight about the Fireside ~ Lowes is an old Scottish Country Dance. It was published by Longman & Broderip in 1781 in Compleat Collection of 200 Favorite Country Dances, London. It was interpreted by Lowes in about 1831 and published in Lowes' Ball-Conductor and Assembbly Guide. It is a proper Triple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

I can't track down Longman & Brodrip, the earliest source I can find is from the Lowes write:

Down the middle, and up again; reel three and three across the dance, the Lady with the first couple, and the Gentleman with the second; set and turn corners; then set, and turn partners.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

B11-81s lead down, turn, lead up to 2nd place as 2s lead up
A21-81s pass 1st corners left to start reels of three across with the end couples, 1s end facing 1st corners
B11-41s and 1st corners set and two hand turn
5-81s and 2nd corners set and two hand turn, 1s end improper
B21-4Lines of three on the sides, set twice
5-8All partner two hand turn to proper
