Green Sleeves ~ 3 Couple

Green Sleeves ~ 3 Couple Green Sleeves

Green Sleeves ~ 3 Couple is an English Country Dance. It was published by John & William Neal in 1726 in A Choice Collection of Country Dances. It was interpreted by Rich Jackson & George Fogg in 1990. It is a proper 3 Couple Longways dance. In this dance the couples are permuted by: 231. The minor set lasts 64 bars.

There are strong similarities to Playford's Green Sleeves and Yellow Lace, but it's not exactly the same. The tune is not the Green Sleeves I know.

The Neals write:

The 1st cu: sett, cast off, sett again, & cast off below 3d cu:
ye same up to their own place's:
1st wo: whole figure with 3d cu: & end in 2d cu: place, her partner ye same with 2d cu: ending in his own place:
1st ma: whole figure with 3d cu:, his partner ye same with 2c cu: both ending in 2d cu: place:
1st ma: hey with 2d & 3d wo: his partner ye same with 2d & 3d men:
1st ma: hey on his own side, his partner ye same on her own side, both ending in 2d cu: place:

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: set, cast, lead, figure eight, hey, siding (and probably others).
