Iantha the Lovely

Iantha the Lovely is an English Country Dance. It was published by Walsh in 1718, London. It was interpreted by Fried de Metz Herman (website) in 1995 and published in Ease and Elegance. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 24 bars.

Walsh writes:
First Man turn the 2d Wo. the other two the same; then the 1st Man lead his Partner thro' the 2d Cu. and up again, and cast off, then right and left quite round; then the 1st Man turn the 3d Wo. and the 1s Wo. the 2d. Man, then he turns his own Partner; then 1st Man thrn the 2d. Wo. and the 1st. Wo. the 3d Man, and turn his own Partner again.

Originally a triple minor.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), cast, lead, hey, circular hey, lead and cast, turn corners (and probably others).
