Newport Quadrille ~ Ford is a Quadrille. It was devised by Benjamin B Lovett in 1925 and published in Good Morning: Music, Calls and Directions for Old-Time Dancing as Revived by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ford. It is a Square dance. It is a multipart dance. The minor set lasts 500 bars.
Note that by 1925 this quadrille only has three figures rather than the five that quadrilles from the 1820s had. Also that in the first figure the women progress to a new partner, while in earlier quadrilles everyone stuck with their original partner.
Lovett writes:
Figure 1 Address partners, address corners 8 bars Head couples right and left 8 bars Side couples right and left 8 bars All balance corners, swing, and promenade with corners

Lovett's glossary says that right and left is done without taking right hands, only left
RIGHT AND LEFT—(8) Executed by two opposite couples. Couples cross over (ladies passing between), join left hands, and turn half around so that each couple stands in the other's place. Repeat back to places, ending with both couples in original positions.
The swing appears to be a modern swing, not a hand turn.
TURN PARTNERS—(4) Lady and gentlemen join both hands (shoulder high) and turn once around. To swing partner in waltz position, weight of body should rest on half of right foot, turning with toe of left foot.
Lovett has three different definitions for "balance" the one which I think is most likely to apply before a swing is BALANCE PARTNERS (4) Partners face each other and execute a swing step (gentleman steps to the left and swings right foot then steps to right and swings left foot, lady steps with right foot to side and swings left foot, and so on.)
While the balance four figure is:
BALANCE FOUR—(8) Face partner, join hands, slide seven steps to opposite side of set, and slide seven steps back to places, all without turning.
The Ladies chain is similar to a modern ladies chain, except that instead of a courtesy turn people simply did a left hand turn.
LADIES CHAIN—(8) Ladies cross to opposite places by giving right hands as they pass each other and then left hands to opposite gentleman, and turning half around. Give right hands back, left hands to partners, and turn to places.
I had assumed the half promonade figure would be outside the set (as it in modern squares), but it is inside.
HALF PROMENADE HALF RIGHT AND LEFT—(8) cross hands with partners and walk four steps to the opposite side of the set, still retaining hands. Turn half round to left (facing opposite direction), drop hands, right and left back to places.
Lovett calls Figure II: "Grapevine Twist," but Cecil Sharp in The Country Dance Book (Part 5) calls this figure in The Wild Goose Chase, while Lloyd Shaw also uses Grapevine Twist.
Figure III is very similar to Ladies in the Center.
The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
