Nonesuch (II)
Nonesuch (II) is an English Country Dance. It was published by Henry Playford (website) in 1697 in An Additional Sheet of New Dances for the Second Part, London. It was interpreted by Tom Cook in 1775 and published in Come Let's Be Merry. Found in The Playford Assembly. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.
Playford writes:
All four hands half round and fall back, the 1. man being in the 2. wo. place, cross over with the wo. into the 1. man's place All four hands half round again, and the 1. wo. hange places with the 2. man
The 1. man being in the 2. wo. place, go back to back with the 2. wo. into the 1. man's place, the other two do the like The 1. cu. being in the 2. cu. place, go the half Figure above till they come into the 2. cu. place, the other do the like at the same time
The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
