The Dainty Fine Bride

The Dainty Fine Bride is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Nathaniel Kynaston in 1718 and published in Twenty Four New Country Dances for the Year 1718, London. It was interpreted by Charles Bolton & Tom Cook in 1992 and published in Retreads Vol.6. Originally proper this version is a 4 Couple Longways dance with the 2s, 4s improper. In this dance the couples are permuted by: 2413. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

Kynaston, as quoted by Bolton, writes:
The 1st wo. cast off (her partner follow her) turn sides improper, with the 3rd cu. the 1st man cast up (his wo. follow him) turn proper with the 2nd cu. the 1st and 2nd cu go half round, claping hands twice (with a small spae between each clap) and turn single, the 1st cu. lead through the 3rd cu. and turn sides with Ye 2nd cu. the 1st and 2nd cu. go back again (clapping as before) to your places, and turn single, set two steps forward to your partners, the 1st cu. cast off and turn in the 2nd cu. place.

Originally a triple minor.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
