We Are All Right at Canterbury

We Are All Right at Canterbury is an English Country Dance. It was published by David Rutherford in 1756 in Rutherford's compleat Collection of 200 of the most celebrated Country Dances both Old and New, Vol. 1, London. It was interpreted by A. Simons (mod) in about 1990 and published in Kentish Hops. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper 3 Couple Longways dance. In this dance the couples are permuted by: 231. The minor set lasts 24 bars.

Rutherford writes:

The first Cu. turns Three with the 2d. Wo. The same To the Man Cross over two Cu. Lead up to the Top Foot it and cast off Lead through the Bottom Cu. cast up right Hand and Left with the Top

I think Simons (and perhaps Rutherford) is trying to force too much movement into the B strains. I have omitted a set from the end of B1, and in B2 I have changed 5 changes of rights and lefts to 3 changes, because I don't think you can do 5 changes in 4 bars. Not and keep time with the music anyway. Rutherford and Simons have the right and left with the 2s, I've made it be with the 3s to get the 3 couple progression right

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: circle, cast, lead, rights and lefts, lead and cast, cross go below (and probably others).
