Occasionally a dance will call for a hand gesture. Pointing, beckoning, waving, saluting (in the modern sense).

History

Walsh has dancers pointing at each other in Her Killing Eyes, 1716.

Thomas Bray uses "beckon" in The Woman's the Man, 1699.
