Ocean Wave

Also known as: Pass The Ocean, Pass through to an Ocean Wave.

An online definition may be found here.

Bars: 2.

Pass the Ocean This call starts from two facing couples. They pass through, the women grab left hands in the middle and turn a quarter, while the men chase a quarter outside, and grab right hands with nearest woman.

History

Lloyd Shaw published a dance called Ocean Wave in his 1939 book, Cowboy Dances. However the figure in the dance is nothing like the modern one.

As is usual with square dance calls, I cannot track what happened between 1939 (when Lloyd Shaw doesn't mention it in Cowboy Dances) and 1975 when CALLERLAB published the mainstream list.
