Diagonal Rights And Lefts

An online definition may be found here.

Bars: 8.

Half Diagonal Rights and Lefts, first with 1st corners, then 2nd A diagonal rights and lefts is a figure for a 3 couple minor set where the middle couple interacts with either their first or second corners.

I've never seen a full diagonal rights and lefts, usually you will find two half diagonals one with first corners, and one with second. This leaves the middle couple where they started, but the corners diametrically opposite.

In a half diagonal rights and lefts with first corners, the middle couple turns to their first corners and does a right hand cross, then turns to their partner's original position (3rd corner person) and does a left hand cross.

History

The first dance I know which has something like a diagonal rights and lefts is the Contra dance Becket Reel, Herbie Gaudreau, 1957, which has a diagonal right and left through.

The next dance I know of is John Drewry's Bratach Bàna, from 1964.
