Warning: The figures for each dance is generated programmatically by regular expression matching and may be in error. Also, for old dances, they reflect the figures used by the interpreter which may not match those of the deviser.
Also known as: Set to and Turn Corners.
Bars: 8.
The active couple starts facing their 1st corners, with whom they set for two bars, then they turn them (which may be either a two hand or right hand turn) and dance (passing left shoulders) to their 2nd corners in the next two bars. Again, they and the 2nd corners set for two bars, and turn for two bars.
In the Fletts say: The first Country Dance figure which seems to have originated in Scotland is the figure 'set and turn corners', which appeared about 1720. Sadly they don't give an example of a dance in which it appeared.
The first use of this figure that I know of is from London, in Johnston's Willie with his Tartan Trews, 1750. (The (R)SCDS says Rutherford, but Johnson published it first.)
