Courage Reel

Also known as: Dance to each corner and set, Marigold Reel.

The active couple starts facing their 1st corners. They and their 1st corners cross by right shoulder, the active couple pulls back their right shoulder to face in, while the 1st corners pass each other right shoulder in the center and turn to face 2nd corners. And the 2nd corners set facing toward the center. This then repeats as many times as called for: those in the center pass the corner they face by right shoulder, these corners also pass each other and turn to face the next corner, who has been setting.

Variants

There is a variant of this figure in the dance Marigold where the corners do not set.

History

The earliest example of this figure that I can find is John Drewry's The Courage Reel, 1977.
