Bloomsbury Market

Bloomsberry Market or Queens-borough is an English Country Dance. It was published by Henry Playford (website) in 1703 in The Dancing Master, 12th ed., London. It was interpreted by Andrew Shaw in 2009 and published in Farnicle Huggy. Found in The Playford Assembly. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper 3 Couple Longways dance. In this dance the couples are permuted by: 231. The minor set lasts 32 bars. It is in the key: G Major.

Playford writes:
The first man turns the second woman with the right-hand, the second with his left-hand, then the third with the right-hand, then cast up to his own place Then his Partner does the same Then the first man and woman Hey with the second man, lead down the middle and cast up and turn, then the first couple Hey with the second woman and cast off

The animation plays at 109 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), cast, lead, hey, hey for three (and probably others).
