Easter Thursday ~ Bentley

Easter Thursday ~ Hume Easter Thursday ~ Bentley

Easter Thursday ~ Bentley is an English Country Dance. It was published by Walsh in 1733, London. It was interpreted by Bernard Bentley in 1977 and published in The Fallibroome Collection, Vol. 5. Found in The Playford Assembly. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 24 bars.

Walsh writes:

The 1st Cu. Back to Back with the 2d Co. and then with their Partners The 1st Cu. turn the 2d Cu. then turn their own meet all four and sett then turn S. and clap Hands, all four going quite round Then the 1st Cu. go the figure through the 2d. Cu. & cross over & turn their own Partners ···

The tune was published with the dance, and the music was synthesized by Colin Hume's software.

The animation plays at 104 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), set, turn single, lead, figure eight, cross go below, back to back (and probably others).
