Hotpoint Special is a New England Contra Dance. It was devised by Joseph Pimentel (website) in 2005 and published in The Goldcrest Collection. It is a Becket CCW dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars. It is in the key: G major. Someone thought this dance was Intermediate.
The tune, called Zone Nine, was composed by Dave Wiesler. It was performed by Goldcrest (Daron Douglas, Paul Oorts and Dave Wiesler) on the album Goldcrest. The music is used with permission from the Joseph Pimentel and Goldcrest. The album may be purchased either at the CDSS online store or at Bandcamp.
The animation plays at 111 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
The dance contains the following figures: hand turn (allemande), lead, right and left through, ocean wave, swing through, swing (and probably others).
