Mac Donald's March

Tamerlain

Mac Donald's March or Tamerlain is an English Country Dance. It was devised by a Person of Quality in 1718 and published in Twenty Four New Country Dances Compos'd by a Person of Quality. It was interpreted by Andrew Shaw in 2009 and published in Farnicle Huggy. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 24 bars.

Walsh writes:

Note: Each strain twice.

The 1st. and 2d. man change place with your partners, and turn single the same back again right hands and left half round with the 2d. cu. all four dance, the same back again the 1st. cu. cast off the 1st. cu. take hands with the 3d. cu. go half round, and back again

Originally a triple minor.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: set, turn single, circle, rights and lefts (and probably others).
