Solomon's Jigg

Green-Goose Fair

Solomon's Jigg or Green-Goose Fair is an English Country Dance. It was published by John Playford (website) in 1652 in The Dancing Master, 2nd ed., London. It was interpreted by Scott Pfitzinger (website) in about 2019. It is a proper 4 Couple Longways dance. There is no progression in this dance. It is a USA dance. The dance lasts 252 bars.

Playford writes:

Lead up all forward and back, turn S. That again First cu. cast off, meet below and come to your places between the rest Last cu. go up on the outside, and come down to your places between the rest

Sides all, and turn S. That again First cu. go down between the rest and come up on the outside Last cu. go up between the rest, go down on the outside

Arms all, and turn S. That again First cu. go down the S. Hey on their own sides and come up again, the rest standing still

In Part 3 of Grimstock, S. Hey is used for a mirror hey, so I shall assume the same here.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color.

The dance contains the following figures: USA, turn single, cast, lead, siding, arming (and probably others).
