Walton Abbey ~ Bolton or Waltham Abbey ~ Bolton is an English Country Dance. It was published by Henry Playford (website) in 1697 in An Additional Sheet of New Dances for the Second Part. It was interpreted by Charles Bolton (website) in 1992 and published in Retreads Vol.6. It is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.
The 1. Manc cast off and his Partner follows him into the 2. Cu. Place, and then go back to back with his Partner, the 1 Wo. being in the 2. Mans Place, cast up into her own Place, her Partner follows her into his own Place and go back to back the first
The 1. cu. cross over below the 2. cu. and go the Figure thorow Then lead down thorow below, and then lead up thorow above, and cast off into the 2. cu. Place
Playford spells the title variously: Walton Abey, Walton Abbey, and Waltom Abey.
The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
