Young Damon

Young Damon is an English Country Dance. It was published by Playford (John Young) (website) in 1726 in The Dancing Master, The Third Volume, 2nd ed., London. It was interpreted by Charles Bolton (website) in 2003 and published in Retreads Vol.9. Originally a Triple Minor this version is a proper Duple Minor dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

Playford writes:

Note: Each Strain twice.

First all four meet and turn single, then Hands half round (The first Couple being in the 2d second Couples place Improper) lead thro' the 3d Couple and cast up into the second Couples place, and turn Hands Lead to the wall and back again, then Hands half round (which brings the first Couple in their Proper place) Then the 1st Couple cross over and turn Hands

Originally a triple minor.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
