Longevity

Longevity is an English Country Dance. It was devised by Orly Krasner in 2000 and published in Celebrations, New York. It is an improper duple minor longways dance. The minor set lasts 32 bars.

Krasner says that "two cousins" siding comes from Two Cousins a dance found in Dutch Crossing, 1993, and defines it thus: partners start out for Sharp siding, but stop halfway across the set (standing left shoulder to left shoulder) and loop back to face the other way, now standing right shoulder to right shoulder.

The tune, called Lucy's Waltz was composed by the choreographer, Orly Krasnere. It was performed by Bare Necessities (Earl Gaddis, Mary Lea, Peter Barnes, and Jacqueline Schwab) on the album Invitation to Waltz. The music is used with permission from the Country Dance Society, Boston Centre, Inc.

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily (no music plays during this slow set). Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.

The dance contains the following figures: gypsy, circle, open ladies chain, poussette, draw poussette, siding (and probably others).
