Put on Thy Smock a Monday

Put on Thy Smock a Monday is an English Country Dance. It was published by John Playford (website) in 1670 in The Dancing Master, 4th ed., London. It was interpreted by Cecil Sharp (website) in 1916 and published in The Country Dance Book (Part 4). It is a 3 Couple Circle dance. It is a USA dance. The minor set lasts 40 bars.

Playford writes:
Hands all, and two D. round, set and turn S That again
First man lead his own wo. and the contrary wo. a D. forwards and back to the third wo. let go your two and turn the third, the two we. turning each other ·: Then lead her you turn'd, and your own as much •·: Then as much with the other two, and turn your own.
Sides all, set and turn S. That again All as before :·:
Arms all, set and turn S. That again All as before :·:

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance will often be slowed down so people can learn the moves more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color may change each time through the minor set.
