The Green Man ~ Playford

Woodycock or The Green Man ~ Playford is an English Country Dance. It was published by John Playford (website) in 1651 in The English Dancing Master. It was interpreted by Scott Pfitzinger (website) in about 2019. It is a proper 3 Couple Longways dance. It is a USA dance. The dance lasts 128 bars. The tune is a jig. It is in the key: D Minor. Playford writes

Lead up all a D. forwards and back That again Set and turn S. That again

The 2. cu. lead up between the first, cast off and come to your places lead down between the last cu. and as much As before

Sides all That againe As before

The 2. man cross over and go about the 1. wo. while the 2. wo. goes about the last man, and turn to your places Then 2. man about the last wo. while the 2. wo. go about the first man, and to your places As before

Armes all That againe As before

Men the S. Hey As before

Women the S. Hey As before

The D. Hey all As before

The animation plays at 120 counts per minute. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color.

The dance contains the following figures: USA, set, turn single, cast, lead, hey, hey for three, circular hey, lead and cast, siding, arming, (and probably others).
