Hit and Misse ~ Hume Hit and Misse ~ Sharp

Hit and Misse ~ Sharp or Hit or Miss is an English Country Dance. It was published by John Playford (website) in 1651 in The English Dancing Master, London. It was interpreted by Cecil Sharp (website) in 1916 and published in The Country Dance Book (Part 4). Found in The Playford Ball. It is a Facing Couples dance. There is no progression in this dance. It is a USA dance. The dance lasts 66 bars. It is in the key: E minor.

Playford writes:
Meet all a D. back again That again Meet all again, lead each other's woman a D. to the left hand Change hands, meet again, take you own we. and to your places.The S. Hey all four

Arms all That again As before As before

The tune, called Daphne, was published by Playford with a different dance and substituted by Sharp. It was performed by Bare Necessities (Earl Gaddis, Mary Lea, Peter Barnes, and Jacqueline Schwab) on the album A Playford Ball. The music is used with permission from the Country Dance Society, Boston Centre, Inc.
